Vice President Mike Pence has confirmed tonight that the U.S. House will vote to defund Planned Parenthood on Thursday. The vote will also address a repeal of Obamacare.
While the federal omnibus budget bill has already been passed with the inclusion of Planned Parenthood’s funding, the vote tomorrow could reverse the abortion chain’s federal taxpayer funding. Approximately 80 percent of Planned Parenthood’s government funding would be cut under the bill, as Medicaid funding would be taken from Planned Parenthood and redirected to comprehensive health care centers. These centers outnumber Planned Parenthood by the thousands across the nation.
After the scheduled vote in the House tomorrow, the reconciliation bill to defund Planned Parenthood will move to the Senate. If the bill is passed in the Senate and signed by President Trump, Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid funding will be immediately removed for one year.
President Trump and many of the Republican members of the House made campaign promises last year to defund America’s abortion corporation if they were elected. Earlier this year, President Trump suggested to Planned Parenthood that the organization stop committing abortions so it could continue to receive taxpayer funding. Planned Parenthood adamantly refused, demonstrating its solid focus on pushing abortion.
The New York Times reported the president’s explanation of his offer:
As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings. … Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice. There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not providing abortion services.
The Live Action video below takes apart the “3% Myth” that claims that abortion is only a small part of what Planned Parenthood does.
