As reported by The Daily Wire in December, leftist organizations have teamed up to bring “Drag Queen Story Hour” to publicly funded schools and libraries in the United States — because having 6-year-old Tommy be read to from a grown man in women’s attire and loud makeup will fight gender norms. Or something.

While the “Drag Queen Story Hours” appear to have begun with the help of San Francisco-based RADAR Productions and New York-based Feminist Press here in the U.S., Canada is also getting in on the action, holding their own version of the story hour at a public library in Edmonton.

“Big personalities with big hair shared stories at the Edmonton Public Library on Sunday afternoon that they say they wish they’d heard when they were kids,” reports CBC News.

“It’s OK to be different,” one of the drag queens running the event, Lourdes, told the packed crowd of about 150 people.

“Five clumsy drag queens wearing big shoes,” went one rhyme. “One fell down and her hair did, too!”

“We dress like princesses. The drag kings dress like cowboys. They bring stuff that the kids are drawn to,” said Lourdes.

Another drag queen, going by TJB, read a book called The Boy Who Cried Fabulous.

“So many synonyms!” exclaimed TJB.

“Edmonton’s still a very conservative climate and so again, for young impressionable children who may not be fitting into the binary boxes in the world, it’s very important for them to have examples of people and places they can grow into that are inclusive,” said the drag queen.

Kristopher Wells, faculty director at the Institute of Sexual Minority Studies and Services at the University of Alberta, pushed the idea of the drag queen story hour, dubbed “Over the Rainbow Storytime,” on the library.

“What I’ve learned today is there’s nothing better than a drag queen reading a story,” said Wells.

“I had tears in my eyes seeing the families stream in here and the excitement where people felt safe and at home,” he continued.

“To see the rapt attention of these kids, the excitement, the happiness, the freedom to be themselves, to celebrate their families and reflect our community, this is what pride should be all about,” Wells added.

A National Center for Transgender Equality study shows that 30% of transgender folks have experienced homelessness and 40% have attempted suicide, yet programs such as “Drag Queen Story Hour” celebrate and thus actively encourage gender confusion in young children. The Left attempts to blame society for the high suicide rates among those who identify as transgender; however, transgenderism has long been defined as a mental illness called gender dysphoria, which is often accompanied by severe depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
